The Woman King follows two women—one who has been transformed into a warrior by her traumatic past and another who is deciding her course after refusing to get married. The story’s emotional arc is centred on the brave woman and former general Nanisca (Viola Davis). Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), a member of the next generation, has entered the palace walls to serve her king and pursue a life independent of her husband’s wishes.
