A 57-year-old Swiss professor named Raimund Gregorius (Jeremy Irons, The Borgias) decides to look into the text he discovers in the jacket of a young Portuguese woman after saving her life. Additionally, there are some train tickets in the girl’s forgotten clothing for that day, which he uses to leave his current job and travel to Lisbon out of curiosity.
There, he will search for Amadeu (Jack Huston, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), the author of the text, until he locates his sister and learns that the poet and doctor who penned the words that had captured his attention was a fighter in the Portuguese resistance group that was opposing Antonio de Oliveira Salazar’s dictatorial rule. Even though several people caution him about the risks involved in the investigation, Raimund refuses to give up because it has taken on a life of its own and even become an obsession that he feels compelled to solve in order to feel fulfilled and regain the stability in his life that he had lost years earlier.
