Over the years, one of the more underrated horror movie has been the Hellraiser series. The rest of the series is mostly forgettable, with the exception of a good first instalment and a passable sequel. The series does have one of the more memorable villains in Pinhead, and the Cenobites are an intriguing race that, sadly, we don’t learn all that much about throughout the course of the series. The series needs to be overhauled at this point, so we have a fresh approach that aims to give it new life. The film’s new director, David Bruckner, uses a story that is much more similar to Clive Barker’s original work.
A young woman named Riley accidentally summons the Cenobites, a group of supernatural beings from another dimension, when she comes into contact with an old puzzle box. Unaware that the Cenobites will do anything to get what they want, Riley’s friends and brother wind up getting involved in her situation.
