Bright as she is, Flora also knows that superheroes with super powers do not occur in real life, at most figuratively. Until she saves the life of a squirrel that almost fell victim to a robotic lawnmower and secretly adopts the rodent as a pet. Soon the squirrel, which she has called Ulysses, starts to show supernatural behavior.
Flora’s mother disagrees with her new roommate and does everything she can to get Ulysses back into nature. Flora’s father, who is no longer a roommate in anticipation of the divorce, believes the wonderful story of Ulysses. And after an incident in which the newly-baked furry superhero causes catastrophic panic in a coffee shop, he also has a real nemesis: the local pest repeller. Thus the world of Flora slowly splits in two: a group of sympathetic believers and a group of insane grumpies who find it a nonsensical story.
